In the West Coast premiere of
Shattered Steps, Chinese composer
Huang Ruo will perform live vocal
improvisation. Next will be the
world premiere of Emmy award-winning
composer John Wineglass' Someone
Else's Child, narrated by Charles
Holt. Marin Alsop then leads the
Festival Orchestra in Carlos
Chavez's Discovery. The evening
concludes with the world premiere of
Woman of the Apocalypse, by Scottish
composer James MacMillan. MacMillan
is described by The Guardian (UK) as
"...a composer so confident of his
own musical language that he makes
it instantly communicative to his
listeners." A Talkback Session with
Marin Alsop and the composers
follows the concert.
