Requiem. Conductors Eric Townell,

perform Mendelsohn's Hebrides
Overture, Berlioz's Shepherd's
Farewell, R. Strauss opening to Thus
Spake Zarathustra and Boito's final
scene to Mefistofele.

Festival Orchestra are joined by
Greg Smith, composer and narrator,
for what might be one of his best
family/educational pieces yet! The
Animated Orchestra is about a
cartoon score being performed at a
symphony concert. The hero of the
cartoon is a ferret (an animal known
for its insatiable curiosity and
playfulness) that sneaks into an
instrument repair shop owned by a
sleepy older gentleman. All sorts of
adventures ensue as the ferret
explores the shop's many
instruments. The concert begins with
the popular petting zoo-style Tour
of the Orchestra where kids can make
an up-close and personal connection
to the different instruments and
players!

Santa Cruz, CA - The Del Sol String Quartet is known
for working with living composers
from a wide range of cultural
perspectives, and for this evening's
special chamber concert they have
curated a program that includes the
world premiere of Mason Bates'
Bagatelles for Amplified String
Quartet and Electronica,
commissioned by Chamber Music
America. Bates joins for the
performance when Del Sol String
Quartet also performs works by Lou
Harrison, Jose Evangelista, Elena
Kats-Chernin, and Chinary Ung. The
Quartet features violinists Kate
Stenberg and Rick Shinozaki,
Charlton Lee on viola, and Kathryn
Bates Williams on cello.
