Cabrillo Festival's 50th anniversary season opens with the world premiere of Hidden World of Girls: Stories for Orchestra, a groundbreaking new work that uses the power of the symphonic form and contemporary multimedia to explore the diverse lives of girls and the women they become. The work is a collaboration between The Kitchen Sisters of NPR as lead concept artists; Emmy award- winning lead composer Laura Karpman; three emerging female composers- Clarice Assad, Alexandra du Bois, and Nora Kroll-Rosenbaum; world- renowned media design group Obscura Digital; and Cabrillo Festival's esteemed conductor Marin Alsop. Post-Concert Talkback Sessions follow each evening concert.

Co-presented by the Oakland Museum of California and Heyday, the event also celebrates the 25th anniversary of News from Native California, Heyday's magazine devoted to California's indigenous people.
Enjoy an afternoon of Native American music, crafts, and food in OMCA's gardens. Read Native books and magazines from Heyday's collection, share stories, and enjoy a picnic on the lawn. In honor of the event, the Museum is offering free admission from 1 to 5 pm that day.
