Berkeley, CA -
July 16, 17, 23, 24 at 7:30 pm, July 18, 25 at 2 pm
The Mothers of Ludlow is a poignant and beautiful musical drama, which brings to life the events leading up to the tragic 1914 massacre of striking coal miners and their families at Ludlow, Colorado. Written by composer and playwright team, Paul and Martha Boesing, The Mothers of Ludlow is a story of desperate times, racial tension, courage and love. It promises to be unlike any other theater experience offered to Bay Area audiences this summer.
The Ludlow strike and the subsequent massacre captured the attention of some of the 20th century's most influential thinkers, inspiring a novel by Upton Sinclair, theses by Howard Zinn and George McGovern, and a tragic lament by Woody Guthrie.

Maira Kalman: Various Illuminations (of a Crazy World)
This summer, the Contemporary Jewish Museum presents Maira Kalman: Various Illuminations (of a Crazy World), the first major museum survey of award-winning illustrator, author and designer Maira Kalmans work.
Perhaps best known for her witty covers and drawings for The New Yorker, families will recognize Kalmans work from the many beloved books for children she has written and illustrated over the years. A generation grew up reading the adventures of Max Stravinsky the Parisian dog poet in such well-known titles as Oooh-La-La (Max in Love), Max Makes a Million and Max in Hollywood, Baby. Her other titles include Stay Up Late, her first childrens book created in collaboration with the Talking Heads David Byrne, and an alphabet book called What Pete Ate from A to Z.

East Bay Series - Real-life Stories of Entrepreneurial Success
Cleantech and Software: Where the Action Is
Historically, cleantech investment has been dominated by capital-intensive projects like alternative energy and biofuels, but with the credit crunch and economic downturn, capital is harder to come by.
Cleantech software, on the other hand, has dramatically increased investment appeal due to low capital requirements and a cost saving value proposition for projects such as energy efficiency, carbon management, water conservation and e-waste recycling.

Girls For A Change (GFC) empowers young women in middle school and high school to create social change in their communities. We are looking for women volunteers to guide girls through the process of identifying an issue in their community and then designing a project that creates change around that issue. Coaching with GFC means working with girls for 12 weeks to tell them they are important and powerful and that they can create change. The commitment is about 15 hours per month and includes one meeting with girls per week. We have teams that start in the fall (August to December) and in the spring (January to May). We offer Coach Training, staff support and a coach manual to help guide you during the year. We provide the support you need to work effectively with girls in communities throughout the Silicon Valley. We are currently in high need of fall volunteers.
