Postcard From Morocco

Sponsored by Merola Opera Program - Click here to see any other events from this sponsor.

From: Thursday, July 19, 2012
To: Saturday, July 21, 2012

San Francisco, CA - July 19, 2012 at 8:00 pm and July 21
at 2:00 pm

Dominick Argento's rarely performed,
dreamlike Postcard from Morocco is
recognized as a musical masterpiece
and considered by many to be one of
the most important operas of the
20th century. This moving,
surrealistic work follows characters
at a train station- and their
luggage. Although there is not a
clearly discernible plot, the Puppet
Maker, who appears to live in the
train station, tries to manipulate
the passengers. Mr. Owen rebels
against the Puppet Maker and causes
him to lose control over the other
characters, except for the Foreign
Singer whom he eerily controls at
the close of the opera. Don't miss
this eclectic mix of ragtime,
cabaret and operetta.

COST:
$40 - $60.

example, to explain why a particular
facility has experienced several
harassment claims. You'll also learn
how to:

* Identify the different options for
conducting RCA
* Avoid the misuse of RCA -
potentially resulting in substantial
liability
* Examine the pros and cons of using
RCA

Birds and Their 'Bugs,' Milne Bay Province, Papua New Guinea

Sponsored by Golden Gate Audubon Society - Click here to see any other events from this sponsor.

Thursday, July 19, 2012

San Francisco, CA - The oceanic islands off the
southeastern tip of Papua New Guinea
are biologically interesting and yet
poorly known. Most of the
significant ornithological
expeditions took place in the late
1800s and early 1900s, and these
visited only the largest islands. In
2009 and 2011, a team from
California Academy of Sciences
chartered a small sailboat and spent
14 weeks visiting large and small
islands, surveying birds, and
collecting samples for studies of
bird evolution and avian diseases.
Jack Dumbacher, the expedition
leader, will take you on a virtual
tour of the islands, introduce you
to the birds, and discuss the
scientific goals of the expeditions.

non members.
