Marian the librarian suspects hes a con man, but she begins to trust him after seeing how hes given confidence to her shy younger brother. Soon, this Music Man has transformed the entire town, not only turning the bickering school board into a barbershop quartet, but himself into an honest man.

Seven extraordinary artists have created diverse multimedia work inspired by the power of oral history, memory, and family lore. Robert Moses' Kin announces The BY Series, a new performance series and choreographic commissioning project, which this year features Robert Moses' Kin dancing works by Moses and guest choreographers Molissa Fenley, Sidra Bell and Ramon Ramos Alayo. On the same program, the company will perform the world premiere of Robert Moses' "Scrubbing the Dog," exploring the renovation over time of historically racist iconography. Following RMK's successful spring season at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, The BY Series offers Bay Area audiences two more weeks to see Robert Moses' Kin.

Written by the first Black American woman to win the Olivier Award for Best New Play, Hoodoo Love is set during the Great Depression and tells the story of a young woman who has escaped the Delta cotton fields to pursue her dream of becoming a Blues singer in Memphis. She falls for a rambling Blues man and whips up a potion of hoodoo magic to win his love. But when her past catches up with her, not even the magic can protect her. The third weekend of the Festival features dances from China, Cuba, Hawai'i, Hungary, India, Korea, Native America, Peru, Spain and Transylvania. The energetic weekend features a Marinera, a Peruvian courtship dance, by El Tunante; a Native American hoop dance by Sewam Dance; lightening fast spins by Chhandam Youth Dance Company; and flamenco from La Tania. The San Francisco Boys Chorus will turn The Cathedral of Christ the Light into a hub of creative activity for the day.
12-2 pm, enjoy dance and drumming workshops. Workshops are suitable for all ages, led by artists from the Robert Moses' Kin Dance Company and Duniya Dance and Drum Company.
2 pm, SFBC Spring Concert, A Song and Dance for All, featuring the tribal chants and pounding percussion rhythms of the Missa Luba, an eclectic mass setting from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Add to the mix dancers from Robert Moses' Kin, performing excerpts from the program Fable and Faith, and you have a program not to be missed.

Join us for an evening with Boots Riley, interviewed live on-state by Davey D, host of Hard Knock Radio on KPFA.
We will discuss the crises facing working class people -- from the economic crisis to the racist attacks on people of color by police, immigration authorities, and armed vigilantes.
Boots Riley has written lyrics as the frontman of The Coup for two decades. Boots' book, Lyrics in Context, 1993-2012, is forthcoming and will be available in August from Haymarket Books.
This event is a fundraiser for Socialism 2012. $5 - $10 donation requested; nobody turned away for lack of funds. The event will be followed by an informal reception with music and refreshments.
