Ah, Wilderness! at Arena Stage

Sponsored by Arena Stage - Click here to see any other events from this sponsor.

From: Friday, March 09, 2012

Washington, DC - Ah, Wilderness!
Written by Eugene ONeill
Directed by Kyle Donnelly
In the Fichandler Stage
March 9-April 8, 2012
Part of the Eugene ONeill Festival

Return to an idyllic age of Americana in Eugene ONeills unabashedly romantic and sweetly funny Ah, Wilderness! As the Connecticut-based Miller clan plans their traditional Fourth of July festivities, their dreamy-eyed middle child Richard is wrestling with cultural conventions, political uncertainty, the power of literature and the exquisite pain of love. The memories of family life were never so delicately portrayed as in ONeills only comedy, his coming-of-age love letter to a simpler time that finds the master playwright at his most wistful and serene. (New York Times).

Long Day's Journey Into Night at Arena Stage

Sponsored by Arena Stage - Click here to see any other events from this sponsor.

From: Friday, March 30, 2012
To: Sunday, May 06, 2012

Washington, DC - Long Days Journey Into Night
Written by Eugene ONeill
Directed by Robin Phillips
In the Kreeger Theater
March 30-May 6, 2012
Part of the Eugene ONeill Festival

Delusion and disenchantment have pitted the Tyrone family members against one another for decades. One fateful day, as their increasingly drunken hours slip by, they must either confront their defeated dreams or else be forever doomed to a cycle of guilt and resentment. Eugene ONeills autobiographical masterwork exposes the lies we tell, the deceptions we craft, and the undercurrent of compassion that, if uncovered, can redeem us in the end. This Pulitzer Prize-winning American treasure restores the drama to literature and the theater to art (New York Times).

Thursday, Friday & Saturday at 8:00 p.m.

Trees and Tree People: Greening Ourselves, Saving the Planet with Jean Shinoda Bolen

Sponsored by CIIS Public Programs & Performances - Click here to see any other events from this sponsor.

Friday, March 30, 2012

San Francisco, CA - Presented by CIIS Public Programs & Performances

The learning experience that led to this talk and Jean Shinoda Bolen's latest book, Like a Tree: How Trees, Women, and Tree People Can Save the Planet, began when a huge, beautiful tree in front of her house was cut down through a vote by a homeowner's association.

That there is a difference between "tree people" and "not-tree people" was a beginning insight. Her words will lead us from knowledge of what trees are and what they do, to the symbolic, sacred meaning, soulfulness, and wisdom of trees. She invites us to be mystical activists, visionary activists, and sacred-feminine feminists - to heed a call that touches heart and soul.

Jean Shinoda Bolen, MD, is a psychiatrist, Jungian analyst, and an internationally known author and speaker. She is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a former clinical professor of psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco.

Churchill Breakfast Club: Innovation's Endless Revolution

Sponsored by Churchill Club - Click here to see any other events from this sponsor.

Friday, March 30, 2012

Santa Clara, CA - By any measure, the last few decades
have been a period of unprecedented
innovation with unprecedented effect
from the largest implications of
globalization to the smallest
individual surprises enabled by new
technologies. Living here in Silicon
Valley, we are at ground zero of
this vast revolution -- and as a
consequence, we take it for granted
that this pattern of innovation will
continue.

Will innovation continue at the same
rate as the last few decades? Or
could innovation stagnate or divert
just when we need new innovations
the most? Join us as Vijay
Vaitheeswaran and Paul Saffo come
together on the Churchill Club stage
for a provocative exploration of
innovation's future.
