Berkeley, CA -
Nicholas McGegan, conductor
Self-described "Schumann nut" Steven Isserlis tackles Schumann's daring cello concerto in this concert that features music by three of the greatest Romantic composers. The Guardian praises the "unrivalled intensity of his playing."
Mendelssohn described his overture The Fair Melusine, a work that inspired Wagner's overture to Das Rheingold, as the "best" and "most intimate" piece he ever composed.
Philharmonia Baroque performed Brahms' first Serenade in February 2010, and the San Francisco Chronicle loved the "verve and robustness" of the performance, calling it "splendid." His second Serenade includes some of the most poetic music that Brahms wrote.

San Francisco, CA -
Presented by CIIS Public Programs & Performances
No experience is required to join in this dynamic weekend of group drumming and singing. We learn basic drumming techniques and explore the rhythm and resonance of the sound we produce and its application for sacred and therapeutic healing. We discover how to infuse healing intention into various combinations of rhythmic and melodic patterns of drums, bells, rattles, flutes, and didgeridoos. Hill also reveals additional ways to integrate into our drumming ancient and contemporary methods for vibrational expansion and healing of mind, body, and emotional states.
Energy workers, healers, classroom teachers, bodyworkers, and drum teachers learn drumming techniques they can use with their clients. Bring hand drums, rattles, bells, didgeridoos, or flutes.

Ah, Wilderness! Written by Eugene ONeill Directed by Kyle Donnelly In the Fichandler Stage March 9-April 8, 2012 Part of the Eugene ONeill Festival
Return to an idyllic age of Americana in Eugene ONeills unabashedly romantic and sweetly funny Ah, Wilderness! As the Connecticut-based Miller clan plans their traditional Fourth of July festivities, their dreamy-eyed middle child Richard is wrestling with cultural conventions, political uncertainty, the power of literature and the exquisite pain of love. The memories of family life were never so delicately portrayed as in ONeills only comedy, his coming-of-age love letter to a simpler time that finds the master playwright at his most wistful and serene. (New York Times).

San Francisco, CA -
Bay Choral Guild presents Psalm settings from a variety of eras and nationalities, by Baroque to Contemporary composers. Composers have long favored the Psalms as ideal texts for choral works and Psalm settings are widely familiar as anthems sung during church services. This lovely program presents works by composers from Byrd, Gabrieli and Gibbons to Bach, Mendelssohn, Bortniansky and Bobby McFerrin. Set to twenty different Psalms, in six different languages, each work is a wonderful, highly individual, evocation of the Psalm text. And the program arrangement makes the most of the musical individuality. Please come to this unique and wonderful concert!
COST: $25 general, $20 senior, $6 student.
