A co-production with Center Theater Group Written by Steve Cuiffo, Trey Lyford and Geoff Sobelle Directed by Paul Lazar In the Kogod Cradle January 20-February 26, 2012
From the uninhibited minds of the engaging (Washington Post) absurdist performance duo Rainpan 43 (all wear bowlers) and actor/magician Steve Cuiffo comes a new theatrical experience. Three semi-pro magicians a divorced shaman, a mentalist with a penchant for warlock acts and a ladies man card master join to piece their lives together. An evening of magic born from the harsh lies we tell ourselves, Elephant Room reveals that the more we hide behind our self-made smoke and mirrors, the further we expose our own vulnerabilities.

An uncooperative new-comer drives his neighbors down a path of mutual destruction, laying bare long-buried secrets in this richly imagined, award-winning drama by Ian Walker. Under the guise of poker night, three families band together to protect their homes and families from an aggressive newcomer. Having won a house in a promotional raffle, Tom Duncan has proceeded to dismantle the neighborhood, bit by unsettling bit. With their options thinning, his neighbors confront him, escalating the conflict to a height where murder seems the only likely outcome. But as their own secrets spill forth, can they survive the aftermath? Winner of the NY John Golden Prize, this provocative drama examines the lines between vigilantism, murder, and justice.
International award-winning playwright Ian Walker has been called "a fierce champion of the San Francisco theater scene," by the SF Examiner and "one of the Bay Area's most promising emerging playwrights," by the Oakland Tribune.

Saturday, February 25, 2012

Berkeley, CA -
Feb 25 - April 1, Fridays 7pm, Saturdays 2pm and 7pm, Sundays 12pm and 5pm
Director Jon Tracy is in true Tracy form with a contemporary twist on the Gilbert and Sullivan classic. According to Artistic Director, Elizabeth McCoy, "This ain't your grandmother's Pirates." And she is right as Tracy is taking Pirates to atomic levels. It shifts gears from an opera into a rock n' roll musical that is gender bending with a female lead pirate played by Cathleen Riddley. Tracy further revamps this swashbuckling classic adventure by infusing a futuristic, post atomic- punk vibe into the overall concept.

San Francisco, CA -
Atanas Ourkouzounov, a leading figure in Bulgarian contemporary music, is winning international fame both as a guitarist and as a composer. His music features the typical asymmetric rhythms and modal harmonies of his homeland but, like Bartok, Ourkouzounov uses regional traditions as a point of departure from which he ranges widely in an intuitive and personal way. Wife Mie Ogura met Ourkouzounov at The Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique de Paris, and the two combine their jazz and classical experience to interpret traditional music for a modern audience.
