Washington, DC -
A co-production with Center Theater Group Written by Steve Cuiffo, Trey Lyford and Geoff Sobelle Directed by Paul Lazar In the Kogod Cradle January 20-February 26, 2012
From the uninhibited minds of the engaging (Washington Post) absurdist performance duo Rainpan 43 (all wear bowlers) and actor/magician Steve Cuiffo comes a new theatrical experience. Three semi-pro magicians a divorced shaman, a mentalist with a penchant for warlock acts and a ladies man card master join to piece their lives together. An evening of magic born from the harsh lies we tell ourselves, Elephant Room reveals that the more we hide behind our self-made smoke and mirrors, the further we expose our own vulnerabilities.

An uncooperative new-comer drives his neighbors down a path of mutual destruction, laying bare long-buried secrets in this richly imagined, award-winning drama by Ian Walker. Under the guise of poker night, three families band together to protect their homes and families from an aggressive newcomer. Having won a house in a promotional raffle, Tom Duncan has proceeded to dismantle the neighborhood, bit by unsettling bit. With their options thinning, his neighbors confront him, escalating the conflict to a height where murder seems the only likely outcome. But as their own secrets spill forth, can they survive the aftermath? Winner of the NY John Golden Prize, this provocative drama examines the lines between vigilantism, murder, and justice.
International award-winning playwright Ian Walker has been called "a fierce champion of the San Francisco theater scene," by the SF Examiner and "one of the Bay Area's most promising emerging playwrights," by the Oakland Tribune.

Emeryville, CA -
IMPACT Bay Area's two weekend Women's Basics Course is a comprehensive training with lots of individualized instruction and practice, covering the emotional, mental and physical aspects of self-defense. This course gives students the opportunity to practice full-force on "attacker" instructors in well-padded suits who play the role of an assailant. Practicing these full-force techniques, taught by a female instructor, allows students to experience the benefits of "muscle memory" - their bodies will remember the techniques in a crisis situation. Verbal and body-language boundary-setting is also practiced to de-escalate situations before they become physical. We teach in an emotionally supportive environment conducive to learning and healing.
No prior self-defense experience needed. Open to all women over age 16 and all levels of physical fitness. This Women's Basics is limited to 16 students for maximum individualized instruction and scenario practice.
